HOW TO KNOW I HAVE PILONIDAL DISEASE?
Symptoms of Pilonidal Disease Include:

-
Pain over the tail bone or at the top of the natal cleft that worsens with sitting for a long period of time (ex. After a long day of sitting at school, after a long car ride).

-
Swelling or redness in the natal cleft area.

-
Bleeding or drainage from the natal cleft.

-
If the infection is not treated promptly, an abscess forms and opens to the outside draining a mixture of blood and pus. Sometimes, this is the first sign you will notice.

The visible signs are:
-
Enlarged pores or open wounds in the midline of the crease, possibly with hairs entering them
-
Bleeding or drainage from an open wound or hole in the natal cleft
-
Sinus tract openings on the skin
-
A painful, red lump adjacent to the buttock crease, or reddening of the skin in that area that is very painful to the touch. This usually signifies the presence of an abscess
